A combination of back pain with coronavirus can be extra scary. We know that many of the underlying symptoms of coronavirus are similar to seasonal flu. Aching muscles, sometimes severe aching in the legs and back, can be attributed to coronavirus. If you are already struggling with back pain prior to contracting coronavirus then this can clearly be amplified.
You may be concerned about getting an appointment with your GP at the moment, regardless of whether you think you may have coronavirus or not. In fact the GP’s are very concerned that they are hearing from less patients than normal as they think people are currently scared to contact them. If you need a prescription renewed, a minor procedure, a follow up call or are concerned about any other health related problem then please contact your GP today. Most GP practices are available on the telephone, or by video media and even by mobile apps and are available for you.
If you are suffering from either new, or ongoing, musculoskeletal aches and pains then you may want to contact your local chiropractor or osteopath. GP practices are extremely busy, and many community physiotherapists have been called into the hospitals to help with caring for patients on the front line. Both chiropractors and osteopaths are registered primary healthcare practitioners and can also conduct telehealth, or video consultations with you. They have the skills to deliver effective care to you online. We can take a thorough history from you, observe you as ask you to perform specific movements and then provide either a diagnosis or suggest further tests that need to be performed, or referred for at this time.
Many practices, including us at Reflex Spinal Health, have access to fantastic rehab exercise software that you can download onto either computer, or your smartphone via an app.
If treatment is indicated then we can help you in many ways. Clearly if you have back pain with coronavirus then the priority is to manage the primary condition, the coronavirus. However, if you have aches and pains and are coronavirus free then we need to help you feel looser, less achey and advise accordingly.
The most important thing at this time is communication and your ability to speak to someone who can advise accordingly. If you feel that you are demonstrating any of the common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) then you should look on the dedicated coronavirus NHS 111 website for initial advice. You should NOT go to your GP practice if you feel you have the virus. If your symptoms worsen or last longer than 7 days then please call NHS 111 for further advice.
According to the WHO, the most common symptoms are:
