We know for a fact that the ‘flu’ bug is forever changing, but do you know how not to get blue with the flu this winter! Every year new strains threatens to knock us out of action. The Not So Fun Facts:
- Cold or Flu? The ‘flu’ is not just a bad cold; it is usually more serious, especially for the elderly, and has some nasty symptoms! Around 18,500 to 24,800 people in the UK die from flu every year.
- Am I contagious? You may be unaware that you have the virus as symptoms won’t always begin straight away, so you can kindly pass the virus onto others before you start feeling poorly. After you start to feel sick you can spread the virus for a further 5-7 days.
- Sharing is NOT Caring! Flu is spread from one person to another. Tiny drops are spat out with coughs, sneezes and even talking (Lovely!!); and can land on people up to 6 feet away. The droplets also land on surfaces and be transferred to a person who touches it.
- Catch it, Bin it, Kill it! Practice good hygiene! Washing your hands with soap and water several times a day, especially before eating, and don’t share cups or food utensils.
- Eat Vitamin Packed Foods Vitamins and minerals that come from whole foods are much better than supplemented sources. So please eat a variety of fruits, veggies, dairy, and whole grains. Many foods are immunity boosting, like oranges, broccoli, and mushrooms.
